Silvered badge in the form of a crowned German imperial eagle with spread wings, clutching a circular medallion enameled in black with a silver “Z” for
Zeppelin
. The eagle’s crown and cross above are crisply detailed. Reverse fitted with a horizontal pin-back and stamped “MAYER & WILHELM, STUTTGART.” These badges were worn by crew members and personnel associated with the Imperial German Zeppelin units during the First World War, marking their service in lighter-than-air operations.

Very Good. Silvering lightly toned with age, enamel center with wear to “Z,” but still well defined. Pin and hinge assembly intact; reverse with clear maker’s mark.
