Mid-19th century large sporting powder flask with deeply embossed “Hunter and Buffalo” scene showing a Native American on horseback pursuing a buffalo, framed by oak leaf and acorn scrollwork, with a stag’s head above. The reverse side plain. Fitted with adjustable brass charger marked in grains (2¼–3¾), blue spring, and four suspension rings. The top bears a clear maker’s mark AM. FLASK & CAP CO. (for American Flask & Cap Company, Waterbury, Connecticut), active 1850–1870 and known for high-grade embossed copper and brass flasks. A handsome and distinctly American design associated with frontier hunting culture of the antebellum period. Dimensions approx.: 9.75 × 4.5 × 1.5 in. Provenance: The Al and Carol Cali Collection. Condition

Very good overall with small ding to back side and light wear to high points. Retains much original darkened lacquer finish with bright brass charger and functional spring.
