An original Oregon-style boot restraint consisting of a heavy polished steel locking shackle fitted to a black leather work boot, accompanied by its operating key. Designed as a custodial restraint device, the Oregon boot was developed and popularized by the Oregon Department of Corrections as an alternative to conventional leg irons. By securing a heavy steel locking assembly directly to the wearer’s boot and ankle, the device significantly restricted mobility while still permitting limited movement. The restraint features a hinged circular locking collar with wooden-handled locking screw, heavy steel side support, and matching key. The distinctive design became widely known as the “Oregon Boot” and was employed by correctional institutions during the mid-20th century.
Dimensions: Overall approximately 12.5 in. L. x 7.5 in. H. (boot); restraint collar approximately 7 x 5.5 in.
