Well-made U.S. cavalry saber of the Model 1906 pattern, featuring a curved single-edged blade designed for mounted service. The ricasso is stamped “A.S.Co.” over “1906,” identifying manufacture by Ames Sword Company, one of the primary U.S. military contractors of the period. The reverse ricasso bears “U.S.” inspection markings. The hilt is of standard three-branch guard form with a leather-covered grip wrapped in twisted wire, terminating in a domed pommel. The saber is accompanied by its steel scabbard with dual suspension rings. Adopted in the early 20th century, the Model 1906 saber reflects the transition period of U.S. cavalry equipment just prior to World War I, intended for both combat and ceremonial use Dimensions approx.: 42 in. Very good, with light age-related wear. Blade shows scattered surface oxidation and minor discoloration but retains a clean edge and profile. Hilt exhibits a consistent dark patina with intact grip and tight wire wrap. Scabbard shows even wear with surface oxidation and handling marks, remaining structurally sound.
