An elegant and likely French-made U.S. officer’s saber from circa 1810, with refined design details and deep blue and gold blade decoration. While stylistically similar to the previous lot, this example presents distinct variations in decoration and materials, pointing to a different maker or workshop. The hilt features a brass reverse “P” guard with two shield-shaped langets—one of which bears an American eagle with Union shield. The grip is fashioned from grooved mother-of-pearl, topped with a decorative brass ferrule. The pommel is formed as a detailed eagle’s head, a hallmark of early 19th-century patriotic officer’s sidearms. The curved blade is decorated on the upper half with deep blue and gold etching, including floral motifs and crossed flags, indicating martial service. A single fuller runs along its length. The decoration, while similar to other examples of the period, differs subtly in composition and style, reflecting a different French production source. Overall Length: 35 in., Blade Length: 30 ¼ in. Pick up and Shipping: Free pickup in Gardnerville, NV. FedEx Ground/Home shipping within the continental U.S.: $75 + 1.5% insurance (unless waived in writing). Combined shipping available.

Condition

Very good. The blade shows multiple edge nicks, including one prominent nick 7 inches from the guard. Blueing remains strong, with light fading in some areas. Gold etching also exhibits minor wear. The quillon is slightly bent, and the hilt has a small amount of movement. No scabbard present.
