A refined and well-preserved example of an early American eaglehead spadroon, likely carried by a naval or artillery officer around 1820. This straight-bladed sword features a reverse “P” brass guard with shield-shaped langets, each adorned with detailed American eagles—displaying spread wings, Union shields, stars above, and arrows and branches in their talons. The eaglehead pommel is crisply cast and deeply expressive.
The grip is crafted from ribbed bone, showing excellent age and color, complemented by a stylized grape-leaf brass ferrule at its base. The blade is straight with a single fuller, decorated in blue and gold etching for approximately two-fifths of its length. The design includes elegant floral work and a trophy of arms filled with gilt. Faint initials are engraved in gold beneath the front langet. The lower portion of the blade remains bright and clean.
Overall Length: 35 in., Blade Length: 30 ¼ in.

Condition
Very good plus to excellent. The blue is slightly faded near the hilt, but both the blue and gold retain strong coverage. Bright portion is near pristine with only faint finger ghosting. The hilt is free of original gilt but well-cast and clean. Bone grip is excellent. A small felt pad is affixed to the reverse langet. No scabbard present.
