World War II U.S. M1 steel helmet retaining its textured corked olive drab finish and early fixed-bale chinstrap loops. The helmet is fitted with a wartime high-pressure liner retaining its original web suspension system and khaki web chinstrap. Interior liner marked with an “S” within a circle, indicating manufacture by Seaman Paper Company. The exterior bears period unit and inventory markings reading “CASU 6” and “505.” Short for Carrier Aircraft Service Unit 6 formed in 1943 and were responsible for the maintenance, repair, and logistical support of carrier-based aircraft in the Pacific Theater.
