Austro-Hungarian WWI General Aircrew Badge (Luftfahrerabzeichen) of finely detailed gilt bronze with multi-colored enamel. The badge displays a downward-swooping eagle grasping lightning bolts, set within an enamel laurel wreath and surmounted by the crowned monogram “K” for Kaiser Karl I. Below, the three crowned shields represent Austria, Bohemia, and Hungary. The reverse is stamped “J. ZIMBLER WIEN VII.”, denoting a desirable wartime Viennese maker. Fitted with an upper downward-facing hook and a lower upward-facing retaining hook for uniform attachment. This badge was awarded to aircraft observers and balloon pilots.
