A fine original Austro-Hungarian Field Pilot’s Badge, struck in bronze and finished with rich green and red enamel. The obverse features an eagle in flight within a wreath of oak leaves, topped by the dual crowns of Austria and Hungary and bearing an enameled shield with a red “K” for Kaiser Karl I. The reverse is impressed with the maker’s mark “J. Zimbler Wien VII.” Fitted with a barrel hinge and clasp. Instituted in 1918 under Emperor Karl I, this badge was awarded to qualified military aviators of the Austro-Hungarian Empire for completion of flight training and active service.
